LOOKING LIKE A GOOD HAUL

OPPS

TAKING OUR TIME

DON'T RUN SO FAST MOM

Yesterday ,on the way home we stopped at the produce stand at the top of the mountain to buy some older bananas, and papayas to feed the birds and squirrels ,(keeps them from eating my fruit before it gets ripe ) and on the way down the curvy road on the mountain, the monkeys had set up a road block ,demanding bananas as payment before you could go thru , I was sure glad we had plenty to spare as our payment and after a few snap shots and banana and papaya, payment we were allowed to continue on our way .

Really this happens all the time at this one spot in the road when the weather is good the monkeys will come down from the temple up on the mountain and beg for food when they know the tourist busses are coming thru, they are sooooo cute and every female is carring a baby or two. I like them and I am glad they stay in the one area, I have never seen one in our village and we are only 2 kl from where they gather, always a fun place and treat, to take our guest to see.

Do you have monkeys where you live? and if so do they become a pest or do they stay in one area like ours ??? In Whang Pho, you can not only swim with the elephants , but you can feed the monkeys too. FUN FUN . Malcolm

Fortunately the only place we have them here is Mirror Mountain in Prachuap.

Although I enjoy wildlife I do not like short tailed/long tailed Macaques they can be vicious.

Malcolm monkeys sure are cute and great to photograph but it's some of their other qualities that concern me.

They have teeth which could easily crack walnuts and speed of hand that a magician would die for. I tend to keep a distance until I'm sure it's safe.

I'm surprised they don't come into Wang Pho as they're only two clicks away. The thought of jungle meat stuffed with banana becoming a local restaurant delicacy might be putting them off. That's one other quality they have, they're smart little buggers.

Hi Malcolm and CieJay
I bet you eventually you will consider these as pests. I was in Sri Lanka and it only took three days of their monkey business to give me a pet hate for them. Too clever for their own good Malcolm. Enjoy them while you can.
Hope all is well your end and you are taking it easy. Fond regards Martin and Galia

No monkeys where I am here in the US.. I do have a bad memory of visiting some sort of traveling zoo when very young back in malaysia, and I strayed too close to a caged monkey - it proceeded to grab and pull at my hair. I was very very upset :(

There are lots on incidents of monkeys foraging for food in dustbins, thus strewing rubbish all around. This usually takes place in housing estates that encroach on, or are adjacent to, jungle (yes, surprisingly there are still some in Kuala Lumpur!)

UM... I know thoses monkeys. We have a temple over here in Sakeo that is over run with monkeys. I've never had them do anything to me and they won't as long as you don't try to touch them or their babies. But, they will snatch the whole bag of peanuts from you if your not careful. If they try to grab the whole bag let them.

Remember when us kids were young you and mom took us to the San Diego Zoo and I think is was Lynette who had a camera and the monkey reached through the bars and grabbed the wrist strap of the camera and was yanking on it. I bet you forgot all about that huh?

LOL

Malcolm, we have monkeys in our higher mountain elevations here in Taiwan, but very few at lower altitudes. i can't say that i've even run across them while hiking or walking.

hello all. Ciejay feels the same way as most of you they are cute , BUTTTT she does not want to get close to them as I guess when she was young one ran after the and bite her sister on the leg and they cried all the way home , I know they are not to be trusted at all , but again the babies are cute and it was fun feeding them and I hope they never wonder off down to Whang Pho . Yhanks for the read. Malcolm

And yes I had forgotten about the monkey and Lynette's camera ,I think I remember that was a fun trip too Dad
